County Genealogy Research Resources

The Register of Deeds will search the county land records for a fee of $20 per hour, which is prorated in 15 minute increments. You will need to agree by email or mail to pay this before the search begins. Copies are $.50 each. An invoice for the search performed and copies will be emailed or mailed prior to sending any information to you. Once payment is received, the search information and copies you request will be sent to you. The search fee is owed, even if no information is found.

We search our grantor and grantee index books using the name you provide. The real estate documents we may find are deeds, mortgages, miscellaneous documents, and oil & gas leases.

We also have some of the old rural and small town school records. To search these records please provide:
1) Individual's full name
2) Name of school attended
3) 10 year time span of attendance

You are welcome to visit our office Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM. We will show you how to search our records. Please call 620-365-1412 first. We may need to close for lunch or it could be a "closed holiday." Permission from the Register of Deeds must be given prior to taking any photos.

The following addresses may also be helpful in your search for information:

Obituaries, history, newspaper articles, census information, etc.
